"The gifts he gave were that some would be...
teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up
the body of Christ,
until all of us come to the unity of faith and of the knowledge of the
Son of God"
Ephesians 4:11-13
The prayer of Christian education at South Canyon Lutheran
Church is that:
all God's children will know God's grace, forgiveness, and love in
their lives,
and that filled with the Holy Spirit they will be able to share with
others
why Jesus Christ is important to them.
These are some of the educational opportunities at South Canyon Lutheran:
Faith Family Style
Faith Family Style is integrated in the Christian education at South Canyon Lutheran Church to promote generations growing together in faith. It recognizes and reinforces the partnership between home and church by honoring baptismal promises and acknowledging the home as the primary center for faith--faith is formed in the home! We believe that what is central to faith formation are what David Anderson of Augsburg Youth and Family Institute calls the "Four Keys" (1. Caring Conversations 2. Family Rituals and Traditions 3. A Family Devotional Life 4. Service to Others.)
One way in which we celebrate our lives of faith with our young people is through our "Milestone Ministry." In this way, families are connected to each other and the church. Milestones include:
- Baptism
- First Anniversary of Baptism
- Entering Sunday School
- Third Grade Bibles
- Entering Confirmation
- First Communion
- Beginning Mentor Program
- Confirmation
- High School Graduation
Let's grow together in FAITH!
Sunday School
9:15 to 10:15 a.m.
2 year olds - Kindergarten
get the chance to experience God's love through active, hands-on
lessons. The toddlers get to see, hear, touch, taste, and smell their
lessons. The central point is reinforced through different learning
activities so that these little ones can remember that God is special
and so are they.
1st through 5th
grade
experience "Rally for Jesus" a Sunday morning program with classrooms
transformed into creative workshops to give all children a different
learning experience. Each Sunday morning the children meet in the
Fellowship Hall for opening music and celebration. Each grade (1-5) is
assigned a shepherd to take the class to a different workshop each
week. The students study a Bible story for three weeks traveling to
places such as: Creation Station, Holy Word Studios with theatre style
popcorn, ATWW Newsroom, Drama Room and Puppet Theatre, Bible Game Room,
Computer Room, Tent Tales, and Mary's Kitchen.
