Here at South Canyon Lutheran, music is an integral part of our worship experience and vital to the spiritual life of our community. We believe in utilizing a wide variety of music for services in many different styles - recognizing newer musical contributions while respecting our rich musical heritage. There are numerous opportunities to become involved in ensembles, provide special music, or simply enjoy listening and singing along. For help finding your place in our exciting program please visit with our music coordinator, Michael Rathke.
Sanctuary Choir
This choir for high school and adult singers presents a wide variety of music from the choral repertoire, singing at both services on the first and third Sundays of each month. The choir also performs annual cantatas at Christmas and on Palm Sunday. Rehearsals are held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. The choir averages forty members, but always welcomes new singers!
Joyful Noise
Joyful Noise is our contemporary group which leads worship during four services each month. They provide music for both services on the second Sunday and sing for a Saturday and Sunday service on the fourth weekend. This group performs a variety of music including praise & worship, gospel, world music, and hymns. Rehearsals are at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Alleluia Ringers
The Alleluia Ringers are a handbell choir directed by Barbara Elving. This fine ensemble provides opportunities to play in a larger group or experience small ensemble ringing. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 6:20-7:20. For more information about bells at South Canyon please contact Barbara Elving at 545-0836.
This group for middle school and high school students meets for "jam sessions" at 12:15 on selected Sundays. The band plays for several youth-led church services in the fall and spring. Interested vocalists or instrumentalists should contact Michael Rathke for more information.
Men's Choir
Our Men's Choir, consisting of Sanctuary Choir members and other interested singers, performs four-part repertoire on three or four special occasions during the church year. Generally, the men sing on Christmas Day, Mother's Day, and other festive days!
Youth Chimes & Handbells
A new opportunity for youth, the chime choirs offers a fun chance to learn general music skills while ringing together and making beautiful music! For more information please contact Barbara Elving at 545-0836.
