Celebrate the Reformation

October 31 marks the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation, when Martin Luther posted his "95 Theses" on a church door in Germany. Luther's ideas opposing certain teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic church led to a monumental shift in Christianity. Luther taught that Scripture is the supreme authority for the believer; that salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone; and that baptism gives all full access to God in Christ.

That's a reason to celebrate!

Here are some Reformation events:

  • Reformation Book Fair - Check out the display in the Koinonia Kafe featuring books about and by Martin Luther. Orders will be taken through October 27.
  • Adult Bible Study - Pastor Roger will continue his study on "A Man Named Martin" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the Reformation Room.
  • Reformation Fair - Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, October 22, for booths and family activities to help us learn more about the Reformation and Martin Luther.
  • Reformation 500: A Celebration - Join the ELCA churches of the Black hills for this celebration at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, featuring music, hymns, readings, and prayers. Refreshments will be served.

Join the Altar Guild

Our Altar Guild members work in monthly teams to prepare the altar, the wine, and the bread for communion. It's a rewarding ministry - and more help is always needed! The group will meet to set the schedule and discuss duties at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, in the Reformation Room (during the Harvest of Crafts Bazaar). Join us and learn more!
