We hope you’ll stop by our newly remodeled Koinonia Kafe. The coffee is always on, and you are welcome to meet there with friends during church hours, as well as before and after worship services on Sundays and Wednesday. Artwork by members of South Canyon Lutheran is featured each month.
Grocery Gift Card Program
Gift cards may be purchased at the church and can be used like cash at the grocery store. In turn, the local grocery stores give 5% of what is spent back -- 3% to Church Response and 2% to the church. Cards for Safeway, Family Thrift and Walmart are available.
Cornerstone Rescue Mission Meal
South Canyon Lutheran Church prepares and serves an evening meal on the third Thursday of the month. There is an opportunity for people to donate food and/or help serve the meal. The Mission, a homeless shelter, strives to meet the physical needs of people by providing programs that will help each individual move toward independent living.
School Kits for Lutheran World Relief
School supplies are collected in August and September. School bags are sewn by the Piecemakers to be sent to places all over the world. They provide needed supplies for children returning to school after the disruption of war or after living in a refugee camp.
Faith Works offers a way to reach out and serve our community. South Canyon Lutheran has "adopted" Wilderness Park, helped put up lights at Storybook Island, and enjoyed a game night at a local nursing home. We look forward to finding new ways to serve our community. All are welcome to participate.
Military Prayer Ministry
Military Prayer Ministry is available at South Canyon Lutheran Church for loved ones, friends, co-workers and neighbors currently serving in a war zone. Prayer guardians pray for them and their family on a daily basis until they return safely home. The name and address of the military person deployed and the name and address of their immediate family members, spouse and parents may be called in to the office or e-mailed to Lorys.
Christmas Servant Event
We are called to show Christ's love and hope to other people. Members of South Canyon Lutheran do just that as they provide warm clothing, food, gifts, and a Christmas tree with decorations to area "adopted" families at Christmas time.
"Clothe-A-Kid" for School
Through Love INC, new clothes are provided for children to start the school year. Church volunteers purchase a pair of pants, 2 shirts, underwear, socks, and a jacket. Children also receive a new backpack.
Life INC is an incentive-based budget mentoring program through Love INC. Participants meet for a meal and classes. South Canyon Lutheran provides and serves one meal a quarter for this vital ministry. South Canyon Lutheran collects canned vegetables and diapers of all sizes that are used as incentives in the program. Upon completion of a 10-week program the participants are given a quilt by the Piecemakers.
Engaged Prayer Ministry
Members offer daily prayers for couples who are engaged and plan to be married. The wedding does not have to be held here for them to be included in this prayer ministry. With first names of a couple and their wedding date, those who volunteer ask God to strengthen the couple's faith and commitment to each other. No meetings or training are involved.
Adopting one of our recent high school graduates going off to college is an outreach to our college freshman as they experience their first year away from home. They receive a note, card, and occasional care package from their home church. South Canyon Lutheran also sends care packages to our college students during final's week (freshman - seniors) realizing this is a stressful time. Parents of all college students are invited to come together to assemble "finals week" packages and have a time of fellowship.
LWF Fair Trade Coffee Project
South Canyon Lutheran Church supports Fair Trade Coffee by selling coffee, tea, cocoa, baking chocolate, and a variety of chocolate candy bars. They can be purchased during the week in the office. The LWR Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair Trade coffee enables small farmers to get a fair price.
Church Response Stock the Pantry Project
The Stock the Pantry Project helps feed the hungry in our community through the food pantry at Church Response. Every month there is a suggested menu. Members pick up a grocery bag in the Narthex and bring it back with enough food for a family of four. Donations may be dropped off in the grocery cart in the Narthex.
Outreach to Students
The congregation has provided new and gently used coats, gloves, hats and scarves to school children. Classroom snacks have been purchased and on occasion South Canyon has helped to purchase ingredients for special breakfasts that are served to students before school holidays when no lunch is served.
Staff members send cards through a weekly caring ministry to celebrate accomplishments, congratulate families who have a new baby, comfort those who are ill or need encouragement and families who experience a death in the family, etc.
Habitat for Humanity
South Canyon Lutheran is a covenant church that supports Habitat for Humanity. Members from South Canyon Lutheran Church volunteer on Thursdays and Fridays to help with construction. Lutheran congregations come together to provide labor and the finances to build a house. Volunteers also furnish meals and snacks for the work crews.
South Canyon Lutheran collects coats, socks, underwear and shoes for students in need at South Canyon Elementary School, through a Love INC program. Donations may be brought to the church office.
Free Lunch Friday
South Canyon Lutheran serves lunch free of charge to local high school students. It is usually the third Friday of every month throughout the school year.
